I was recently approached, through a mutual friend, by a local band, Bette Noir (pronounced Betty Noir) to shoot some promo photos for them. As an avid music lover and concert goer, I jumped at the chance. While we haven't gotten around to actually shooting the promos, I have been able to photograph them playing live a few times. The first time was a practice and the second was a live show.
Here's a few shots from the practice, held at their rented storage unit in Alexandria, VA (apparently, practicing in a storage unit is relatively common thing, but I had never heard of it and I thought--and still think--it's totally cool):
The rest of the shots are from their show at the Austin Grill in Rockville, Maryland:

This last one is my favorite:
I really enjoyed shooting these and hope to do more band & musician work in the future. If it's something I start doing a lot more of, I'll probably set up another site dedicated to it, but for now, I'm going to just post it here.
Just a quick note to let everyone know that I've updated my wedding portfolio. It's got a lot of new photos from my more recent weddings. And the best part is that the lightbox viewing (where the photos pop up when you click on the thumbnail) is gone! In its place are just the photos--so much better!
Also, as I mentioned in a recent entry, I'm starting to post sneak peeks of recent weddings and portrait sessions to my Facebook page. I posted the first one today. It's from the Rust's family portrait session at the World War II Memorial and the LDS Temple in Washington DC. Go check it out and be sure to fan me to keep up with my latest work.
When I first started out, I bought a cell phone that was dedicated solely to Ben Rasmussen Photography. I've regretted it ever since, because it's been a total pain having to deal with two phones (biz & personal). So, I was very excited when I received an invite to Google Voice a while ago. Now, I can handle both my biz & personal numbers with one phone. Freeeeedoooommmm!
I wish they had the ability to transfer an existing number, but they don't. Oh well. The old number will continue to work for a while.
So, if you need to call (or send a text), please note my shiny new number: 703-493-0399. You can also use Google's handy widget below to connect you (it's on my contact page, too).
There are also more to come, including a page on my shooting style (in short, relaxed, natural and non-intrusive) and a page about the albums I offer. Also, I'm going to be reworking the weddings & portraits sections to be more like the engagments section, ditching the cool-at-first-but-now-annoying lightbox viewing of the portfolios (where the larger image pops up when you click on the thumbnail).
So, watch for another random blog entry in the future, I guess.
Last thing: I'm going to start using my Facebook page more actively. Among other things, I'm going to start posting quick sneak peeks a day or two after a wedding or portrait session. So, be sure to friend me and fan my page so you can see these updates:
